Find your voice with Owen Marshall, one of NZ's finest short story writers. A teacher for 25 years before dedicating himself to writing, he will share the tricks of the trade with generosity and passion. An Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to literature, he became a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) in 2012 before being awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement in 2013.
Described by Vincent O'Sullivan as ‘New Zealand's best prose writer', Marshall has written or edited 30 books, including the bestselling novel The Larnachs. Many leading contemporary writers have counted themselves amongst his admirers including Janet Frame and Fiona Kidman, who wrote of his work, ‘I find myself exclaiming over and again with delight at the precision, the beauty, the near perfection of his writing'.
Owen promises you 'a practical course, focussing on the craft elements of fiction writing, such as structure, voice, character, handling time, beginnings, endings and dialogue.'
